On March 13, 2025, the Department’s Children, Adolescents and Young Adult Services (CAYAS) Division attended the Achieving Critical Employment Skills (ACES) program kickoff meeting at San Jacinto High School.

ACES is a three-year pilot program between San Jacinto Unified School District (SJUSD) and the Inland Empire District of the Department of Rehabilitation (DOR).

The ACES program is unique because it is designed specifically for high school aged students to:

  1. Receive extensive work-based learning experiences leading to competitive integrated employment; and
  1. Align their academic coursework with the requirements of an alternative pathway to attaining a high school diploma.

Students must attend high school in SJUSD, be age 16 up to 22 years, and be served by Inland Regional Center (IRC). ACES participants will receive a person-centered plan that will include the services and supports they will receive from SJUSD, DOR, and IRC.   The goal is to help them get ready for life after high school.

The parents of the student participants will attend workshops throughout the program. These workshops will guide them in building high expectations for their children’s future.

A group of 22 individuals pose for the camera in a room in front of a projector that reads Achieving Critical Employment Skills.
