* Clarification: Time for community feedback will not be provided during the April 10, 2025 informational webinar.  However, another webinar will be scheduled and there will be an opportunity for the public to provide feedback later this year.

A new tool is being created for regional centers to determine individuals’ need for respite, day care and personal assistance.  Your support will make it better. The Standardized Family Support Tool will:

  • Create a simple, easy to use assessment resource, and
  • Provide a more consistent experience for all families, no matter where they live in California.

In collaboration with various community partners, the Department reviewed and analyzed policies and procedures across all regional centers to develop a draft tool. Now, regional centers across the state are testing it.  Feedback from stakeholders, regional centers, and the public will help refine the draft before it is finalized.

We invite you to join an informational webinar on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. During this webinar, the Department will present:

  • Background of the Standardized Family Support Tool
  • Purpose of the Standardized Family Support Tool
  • Highlights of activities to develop the drafted Standardized Family Support Tool
  • Plans to share a draft version of the tool with the community
  • Plans to ask for feedback before making the final version

* There will be an opportunity for the public to review the drafted tool and provide feedback later in the year. Throughout this process, care will be taken to minimize the risk that the new tool negatively impacts families and/or those receiving respite, day care, or personal assistance services from regional centers.  The law requires statewide implementation no later than January 1, 2026.
